Francesca Woodman
Francesca Woodman was an American photographer best known for her black and white pictures featuring herself and female models, who uses a slow shutter speed which gives her pictures a more ghostly affect.
Analysis
This picture is of a woman collaged onto a wall in a room. With the black and white affect on the photo it created a more scary and spooky effect to the image. The objects in the background help make the image more interesting to look at and with the window it brighten ups the photo and makes the woman more visual. Francesca Woodman created this image by putting the camera onto a tripod and the reason as to why is because with the shutter speed being so long the camera needs to be still as everything in the picture needs to be sharp. The shutter speed being so long is because the model will have enough time to move around which would create a meaningful blurred affect. A lot of thought had to be put into this photograph for example the room had to be dark due to the long shutter speed so the light would be exposed over it. |
Francesca Woodman Response Task (classwork)
Here are my pictures that I took in class responding to Francesca Woodman's work:
Here are my favourite pictures that were taken in class that I have edited on photoshop to make the pictures more ghost like and more interesting-

Photographers analysis that inspired me in this unit
Michael Bosanko is an extremely creative photographer who uses light painting in a lot of his work. Here are some examples of his photographs.
Analysis
This image is of a giant spider made of bright lines crawling along on a mysterious journey. Bosanko made the spider look distant on the long, never-ending road, all with the use of light. Bosanko was able to make the photo effective and us seeing the picture we feel that it's not a big black scary spider it's a friendly bright kind one so it gives us a positive feeling not a negative one. Although, with the use of the sun setting in the background this suggests that the spider has been crawling for a long time and its getting very tired and is eager to get to it's destination |

Final Piece
I have chosen these 6 pictures that I have taken and edited on photoshop that I feel are the best ones that I have shot and best represent all of the topics that we have studied in this unit. I think that this unit went well even though there were a few times that I felt I could not present my work to my best ability, but, eventually I came to terms with everything and was able to produce my pictures well. My favourite topic of this unit was 'Zoom Blur' because I enjoyed going out of class and taking pictures and understood everything about creating the zoom blur image easily. The thing that I found most challenging in this unit was light painting as it was very hard to capture the image in the right position and it was also hard to create the image as we were capturing the photos next to people who were also taking light painting photos so their lights would sometimes get seen in my images. Eventually I overcame these difficulties in creating the image by contionuously practicing creating light painting pictures with my camera. If I could change any section then it would be the light painting section because I felt that the images that I took could be better. Overall, I am happy with my final outcome of this unit as I took a fare amount of pictures, learnt how to use and create images on photoshop related to the topics in this unit and I enjoyed doing different type of Movement pictures which motivated me to want to be taking lots of pictures and do extra designs and methods with the camera.
